Russian visa for citizens of Liechtenstein

Russia has long been an attraction to travelers of all sorts. Whether you need to go there on touristic, business, private or other purposes, the first question that arises is:

Do citizens of Liechtenstein need a visa to Russia?

• Yes, they do.

It does sound like a challenging process – to get a visa on your own. Especially, considering the fact there’s no Russian embassy in your country, and you’ll have to go to Switzerland to apply. However, all is possible, and in this article we’ll guide you through the process step by step.

Step 1. Determine the reason for your traveling and choose the travel dates

Think about the time suitable for your trip, the purpose for which you are going and the Russian party, who will be able to provide you with the required visa support – invitation to Russia. Below you can read about the main visa types and choose among them the one that suits you best.

RUSSIAN TOURIST VISA FOR CITIZENS OF LIECHTENSTEIN

You need it if:

• You are going to see the sights, on a tour or excursion, backpacking, hiking or driving through Russia

• You are going to stay no longer than 30 days

• You are planning to enter Russia once or twice during your trip

• You have bought a package tour or use the services of a registered Russian tour operator to get the required tourist confirmation

RUSSIAN BUSINESS AND HUMANITARIAN VISA FOR CITIZENS OF LIECHTENSTEIN

You need it if:

• You are going to attend business events, meetings, exhibitions; negotiate or sign agreements; provide technical maintenance; participate in cultural, sports, political, religious and other events as part of humanitarian activities etc.

• You are going to stay no longer than 90 days within 180 days period. A visa itself can be issued for up to 1 year and over if required

• You are planning to enter Russia once, twice or multiple times

• You are invited by a registered Russian company or a business partner from Russia

RUSSIAN PRIVATE VISA FOR CITIZENS OF LIECHTENSTEIN

You need it if:

• You are going to visit your friends of relatives in Russia

• You are going to stay no longer than 90 days

• You are planning to enter Russia once or twice during your trip

• Your Russian host has obtained for you the legal invitation through the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia (MIA)

RUSSIAN STUDENT VISA FOR CITIZENS OF LIECHTENSTEIN

You need it if:

• You are going to study at an authorized Russian educational institution

• You are going to stay 90 days and above, according to your course duration

• You are planning to enter Russia once, twice or multiple times

• You are officially invited by the chosen Russian school or University, who have obtained a legal invitation for you through the MIA of Russia

RUSSIAN WORK VISA FOR CITIZENS OF LIECHTENSTEIN

You need it if:

• You are going to work under a legal labour contract with the Russian employer

• You are going to stay 90 days and beyond in accordance with your contract conditions. A work visa can be issued for 90 days and be extended in Russia, or for 3 years at once for Highly Qualified Specialists

• You are planning to enter Russia once, twice or multiple times

• You have an original invitation issued by the MIA of Russia upon request of your employer

RUSSIAN TRANSIT VISA FOR CITIZENS OF LIECHTENSTEIN

You need it if:

• You are going to travel through Russia on your way to another country; or make a connecting flight at a Russian airport with the need to leave transit zone

• You are going to stay no longer 3 days in case of air connection or up to 10 days in case of crossing Russia by road or railroad

• You are planning to enter Russia once or twice during your trip

• You have the return tickets to show your route

Choose the appropriate visa type and follow on to collect the documents for your visa application.

Step 2. Get the documents you need for your visa

Before you book your appointment at the Russian embassy or visa center in Switzerland, you should collect the list of required visa documents. It includes:

• Original passport valid for 6 months beyond your visa expiry, with minimum two blank pages for visa
• Visa support (a.k.a invitation)

If you have another visa type, please contact your Russian host to obtain the required document with his help

• Completed online visa application form. Find it at visa.kdmid.ru, fill in, print, sign, date, glue your color photo in the marked field. See photo specifications here: Russian visa photo specifications
• Travel insurance policy. Get it in any local insurance or online service. It should be valid on the territory of Russia for the entire period of your trip and have coverage of no less than 30000 euro.
• If you want to study or work in Russia staying longer than 90 days, you’ll need to take a blood test for HIV, get the certificate stating you are negative and include it in your list of documents. It’s valid for 90 days from the issuance.

Collect all these and proceed to the application

Step 3. Apply at the nearest Russian Consulate or Visa Center

Since there’s no embassy of Russia in Liechtenstein, you can apply at the nearest Consular division of the Russian Federation in Switzerland in Bern or Geneve. Book your appointments here:  http://bern.kdmid.ru/fr.aspx or here http://test.kdmid.ru/geneva

Your application should be accompanied by the payment of required visa fees:

For applicants, who apply at the visa center it’s required to pay consular fees (the amount varies depending on the visa type and can be found on the website of the visa center), as well as extra service fee of 28 CHF. Payments are made at the visa center in cash or major credit cards.

For applicants sending documents by post, it’s required to pay the above mentioned fees, as well as mandatory: Express courier charge 75 CHF, postal fee 15 CHF, SMS fee 2 CHF for each individual application. 

Step 4. Receive your passport and check your visa

We recommend applying through visa center to facilitate the process, you can also pay for the delivery of passport back to you.

If all is fine, you can start preparing for your trip. Don’t forget to carry in your handbag:

• your passport with visa
• your invitation from the Russian side
• your travel insurance policy
• hotel and other bookings if you made them

Step 5. Get two more documents upon arrival

You have finally arrived to Russia. At the airport you’ll need to complete the migration card, which is given by the immigration officer. Please, carry it along in your passport throughout the trip. You’ll need to return it back at the immigration control when leaving the country. It looks like this:

If you are going to stay over 7 working days you’ll also need to get yourself a Registration. Hotels will provide it for you. If you stay at a private accommodation, ask the owner to get it at the local post/police office department within the 7 days after your arrival. Carry it with you during your stay.
