Step 1. Select a suitable Russian visa type for your travel
Before your start to prepare the documents or apply for a Russian visa, you should identify which type of visa is the most suitable for your purposes, duration of your stay in Russia, number of entries you are going to make and the visa support documents you may get. Russian Tourist visa for Indonesian citizens
Choose this type if:
- You intend to visit Russia on tourism purposes to do sightseeing, go on excursions and tours; with brief business or medical visits (Aim tourism), drive through Russia by car, bike or motorbike (Road Tourism)
- The duration of your trip will be no longer than 30 days.
- The number of planned entries to Russia will be: single or double

Russian Business and Humanitarian visa for Indonesian citizens
Choose this type if:
- You are going to attend business meetings, conferences and other events, purchase goods and services, invest into business, carry out negotiations or commercial activities; visit political, religious, cultural and other humanitarian events etc.
- Duration of your trip will be no longer than 90 days out of 180. Visas can be issued for up to 1 year
- Number of entries will be: single, double or multiple

Russian Private visa for Indonesian citizens
Choose this type if:
- You are going to visit and stay with your Russian relatives or friends
- You will stay no longer than 90 days
- Number of entries will be: single, double
- Your Russian host can provide you with required visa support: an official invitation from the MIA Russia. It’s prepared in 20 working days and the host should provide his financial statements and guarantee he’ll take full responsibility for your stay in Russia.
Russian Student visa for Indonesian citizens
Choose this type if:
- You are going to get educational training at a Russian school, college, university or institute
- Your stay can last from 90 days and longer. This visa is issued initially for 90 days with possibility to extend it in Russia, if required by the study course.
- Number of entries will be: single, double
- Your school or university has provided you with the basis for visa – an official invitation from the MIA of Russia; or an original admission letter issued by a Russian educational establishment; or a valid student card in original
Russian Employment/Work visa for Indonesian citizens
Choose this type if:
- You are hired by a Russian company or legal individual under an official labour contract and intend to carry out paid work in Russia;
- You will stay in Russia 90 days or longer, depending on your contract conditions. This visa can be extended in Russia.
- Number of entries will be: single, multiple
- You have a visa support document: an official invitation from the MIA of Russia supplied for you in original by your Russian employer
Russian Transit visa for Indonesian citizens
Choose this type if:
- You are going to pass Russian territory on your way to another state
- You will need to stay up to 3 days for connections by air, or up to 10 days for crossing Russia by road or railway
- Number of entries will be: single
- You have the tickets of entry and exit from Russia, showing your route
Important: If you make connection and stay at the airport transit zone, without passing passport and immigration control, you don’t need a visa. Otherwise, you require a transit visa.
If you travel to Kazakhstan or Belarus with connection in Russia you need a transit visa.
Please, choose the visa type exactly according to your travel purpose. Remember, that visas cannot be converted into each other, or obtained already on the territory of Russia. Note, that you should get long-term visas (student/work) prior to your travel to Russia (!)
Step 2. Gather the required documents for your visa
To apply for a visa you’ll need to collect and prepare the following documents not earlier than 3 months before your trip:
- Valid passport and a good quality bio page copy. A passport should have at least 2 blank visa pages and be valid 6 months more beyond the expected visa expiry date
- Visa support document supplied by the Russian host.
- Completed online application form. Find it on site visa.kdmid.ru fill in, print on both sides, sign and date. Insert a color recent photo into the markes field. Use glue, not adhesive tape or stapler. Read on photo specifications here: Visa photo requirements
- HIV-negative certificate for applicants of employment/student visas. You should take a blood test in any local clinic and if you have negative result, submit this certificate in original not later than 3 months after the test was made.
Step 3. Apply for your Russian visa in Indonesia
After you have collected the required set of documents, you can apply for your visa in Indonesia at a Russian Consular Section of the Russian Embassy in Jakarta.

When you apply for a visa you’ll be requested to pay the Consular fees for the processing of your documents. Prepare to pay:

If you apply for a tourist visa as part of an organized tourist group, the processing will take minimum 14-20 working days, or minimum 1 week for express procedure.
Step 4. Obtain your passport and check your visa for mistakes
When you pay the fees you’ll be given a receipt, take it with you when you come back to collect your passport once the process is finished.

Step 5. Get migration card and registration after arrival to Russia
After you have arrived to the Russian border you’ll be asked to complete a migration card, which is given out by the migration officer. Save this document after having it stamped, and carry along in your passport throughout the trip. You’ll need to return it back at the immigration control when leaving the country.
